The Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the best mobile experience yet by merging the best features of the Galaxy Note and S series. It has the best camera and connectivity performance ever.

The Launch

At Unpacked in February 2022 Samsung Galaxy unveiled the highly anticipated, most note-worthy Galaxy devices Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. With it also comes three new tablets in the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. They are the next generation of Galaxy S that comes with feature-packed, top-of-the-line specifications.

But in this review, we will be talking solely about Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The grandeur goes to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra!

“At Samsung, we constantly push ourselves to raise the bar on our most premium devices,” said TM Roh, President, and Head of Samsung Electronics’ MX (Mobile eXperience) Business. “Galaxy S22 Ultra takes the beloved functionality of the Galaxy Note and the most celebrated aspects of the S series and merges them for a totally unique mobile experience. This is a leap forward for mobile technology, setting a new standard for what a smartphone can be.”

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S22 Ultra by merging the best of two smartphone legacies, the unequaled power of the Note series and the pro-grade camera and performance of the S series. This merging results in Galaxy S22 Ultra, the most powerful Ultra device Samsung has ever created. This phone is the mystical beneficiary to the ever-trusty but now-largely-gone Galaxy Note series. This phone looks and feels like a Note, but features a huge screen, a garaged S Pen, advanced Nightography and video capabilities, and battery life that lasts over a day. What’s more, you no longer must carry the S Pen separately as they had to with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or with a separate silicon case like they had to with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. From ingenious capabilities and top-notch productivity to power and performance, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has brought everything you like regarding the Note experience.

Moreover, this phone has 6.8 inches, 114.7 cm2 (~90.2% screen-to-body ratio), and a dynamic AMOLED 2X, HDR10+, 1750 nits (peak) display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The heart and soul of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor (Exynos 2200 (4 nm) - International variations dependent on a region), comes in configurations ranging from 8GB of RAM with 128G of storage to 12GB of RAM with 1TB of storage. The OS is the all-time best Android 12, One UI 4.1. All of this is powered by a sturdy fast charging, non-removable Li-Ion 5,000 mAh battery.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S22 Ultra camera has the specifications to maintain its enviable position in the smartphone camera market overall. Its main camera sensor is a 108-megapixel f/1.8, 24mm (wide), 1/1.33", 0.8µm, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS. The 108MP main camera is backed by an autofocus laser as well. Complementing this sensor is a 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm, 120˚ (ultrawide), 1/2.55", 1.4µm, dual pixel PDAF, Super Steady video. On the front, is a single 40 MP, f/2.2, 26mm (wide), 1/2.82", 0.7µm, PDAF selfie camera featuring Dual video call with Auto-HDR. The video is a 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30fps.

The rear cameras can shoot 8K video at 24 frames per second (fps) or 4K at 60fps, with auto fps (for lowlight optimization frame rate). These rear cameras can support auto-framing for up to 10 subjects, however, this may send the resolution down further to Full HD at 30 fps. The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s advanced Super Clear Glass lens takes smoother and clearer nighttime videos without flares. Plus, the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers exclusive access to the Expert RAW app, which features a comprehensive suite of in-camera editing tools that deliver a DSLR-like experience and let you enjoy more creative control. Samsung electronics’ bolstering of camera setup with stereo depth map technology should allow for better portrait photography.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will come in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Burgundy (New).
