Overview
OPPO A55 4G (Not to be
confused with Oppo A55 5G) is a wise investment, complete with an
overabundance of features that users would be expecting from a device under
$192. Specifically, with 4GB RAM / 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM / 128GB ROM, 6.51
inches IPS LCD Display, Android 11 OS, a Triple Rear & a 16MP Front Camera,
MediaTek Helio G35 Chipset, Octa-core CPU, and 5000 mAh Non-Removable Li-Po.
The brand has also loaded an amazing set of cameras, great battery power, and
considerable storage space to get you running throughout the day.
The Design –
Oppo A55 4G comes with a 6.5-inch IPS LCD screen featuring a
720 x 1600 pixels resolution and 270ppi. This smartphone offers 90% of the
screen-to-body ratio for better viewing. Directly upfront, on the top part, is
the earpiece while on the upper left is a punch-notch hole for the selfie
camera. It has thin bezels but looks pretty and handy. Although there is no
reference to any special glass protection, it, however, has a pre-installed
screen protector for added protection. On its left side, are the triple-card
tray for two nano-sized SIM cards, a microSD card, and volume controls.
The power/unlock button, which also doubles as a fingerprint
sensor is on the right side. All are easily reachable even with small hands
since it’s placed near the middle of the frame. Plastic buttons are firm and
too clicky. The main microphone, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C port, and
loudspeaker are well-placed at the bottom.
At the back are where its triple camera is set up, a LED
flash, and some OPPO branding. Moreover, the back has a glossy finish, but with
the free jelly case included in the box, make sure to take advantage of it as
this phone is susceptible to fingerprint smudges. Though the phone is made of
polycarbonate material, it does feel premium. It is also more comfortable to
grip and easy to hold compared to its predecessors.
The Screen Display –
The smartphone has a bezel-less display coupled with a
refresh rate of 60Hz, but the display as it is bright and vibrant is likable.
In the display settings, you can choose the screen temperature to Cool,
Default, and Warm. Furthermore, users can also choose what dark mode style is
preferred for it has, Enhanced, Medium, and Gentle modes to choose from. The
specially developed automatic brightness adjustment will keep the eyes as
comfortable outdoors and indoors, day and night. Even though it only has an LCD
panel, surprisingly, it produces punchy colors and decent viewing angles. This
device gives you an immersive viewing experience when watching content on
Netflix, YouTube, or anything alike. In general, the display is respectable
enough and will be too sufficient for daily needs.
The Audio –
When talking about the audio, this phone only comes with a
single downward-firing speaker. The quality is good enough that typically comes
with its price range. Good for podcasting and voice calls, but users are better
off with headphones for a deeper listening experience. Additionally, and for
good things in this phone, it comes with a 3.5mm audio port so worry not about
getting a wireless pair of earbuds if that is the preferred option.
The Cameras –
The cameras come with a 50MP f/1.8 Wide Angle Primary Camera
with a flash, a 2MP f/2.4 Macro Camera, and another 2MP f/2.4 Depth Camera.
Quality-wise, photos seem like real life because it is clear, bright, and
detailed. The colors are perfectly accurate. Additionally, its camera features
include a Night Mode, Portrait, Panoramic, Macro, Time-lapse, Pro Mode, etc.
Likewise, you get a 16MP f/2 Wide Angle Primary Camera for assisting selfies
and video calls on the front side. Face Detection, HDR mode, Auto Flash,
Autofocus, Continuous Shooting, Digital Zoom, ISO Control, and Exposure
Compensation are a few of the main highlights loaded within the phone. However,
shooting while the sun is high up, at times results in overexposed photos. On
the other hand, selfies are good, but it is not OPPO is well-known for that?
The colors and skin tones are accurate, nevertheless, just make sure to have
good lighting. This phone does have Portrait mode, but on the contrary, the
subject-background separation is not as good as what is expected to be,
nonetheless, is enough for everyday use. Photo shots done in low-light
environments can be murky at times even with the night mode turned on. In most
cases, this makes the photos not usable in any case.
The Performance -
Well, the feel is fine for it can cope with basic tasks.
That is the minimum.
Giving life the OPPO A55 is Android 11 skinned with ColorOS
11.1. It is powered by a Mediatek Helio G35 chipset coupled with an IMG GE8320
GPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. With ColorOS, lots of
customization options are available more so if it gets personalized
accordingly. That is from changing the icon shape, fonts, up to choosing a
theme to switch the overall look for the home screen. Additionally, a dedicated
night mode can be toggled through its settings. Storage-wise, there’s 64GB, and
from that, users can get 46GB of usable space right out of the box.

Conclusion –
Finally, if you are familiar with and used to its UI, it is
essentially easy to use. Noticeably there is a lot of bloatware and the usual
pre-installed apps such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Messenger, TikTok,
Lazada, and Agoda. You can always uninstall if you are not keen on using these
apps.
