Overview
Motorola until
recently revealed its new mid-range smartphone in the form of the Motorola Edge
20 Fusion. The Edge 20 Fusion feature a 6.7-inch, 8-bit color, 90Hz OLED
display, a MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor, and a main rear camera with a 108
MP Quad Function Camera System. The main camera also comes with an
ultra-wide-angle macro vision lens that helps fit more in the frame. With macro
lenses, you can get very close to the subject. Additionally, its intensified
light sensitivity empowers you to take sharp and clear images in any light
setting.
The Edge 20
Fusion is also splash-resistant, with a waterproof IP52 rating, meaning it can
withstand water splash without causing damage to the phone. The phone runs on
near-stock Android 11 and comes with business-grade security. Significantly, it
has a few resemblances with the Motorola Edge 20 Lite. Just as with the design,
this is an even more toned-down variant. Notwithstanding, we think this smartphone is worth checking out.
The Design
The Edge 20
Fusion spans a large 6.7-inch display, weighs just 185 grams, and has a
thickness measuring 8.25 mm – is somewhat bulky to hold. The weight balance is
done well with this phone. And yes, it is not a thin and light device by any
means, but still a respectable one.
The Moto Edge
20 Fusion is available in two color options: Cyber Teal and Electric Graphite.
Bold colors and beautiful, curved edges help it stand out from the crowd.
Although it looks like it has a robust build and is somewhat heavy knit owing
to its large battery capacity, however, it’s not as heavy as it looks. The body
is wholly made of plastic, yet it does not feel cheap at all.
At the front,
is a center punch-hole notch, and right above it is the earpiece. Also
noticeable is a relatively large bezel at the bottom side and thin bezels on
the other three sides. The 10-bit AMOLED display dominated the front of the
phone. On the right is the power button incorporating a fingerprint scanner
while the volume rockers are placed right above it. Furthermore, on the left is
a dedicated Google Assistant button, along with a card tray for two nano-sized
SIM cards and a microSD card in a hybrid slot. At the top is the secondary
microphone. And lastly, on the bottom, is a 3.5mm headphone jack, Type-C port,
main microphone, and speaker.
The Display
Most
smartphones offer an AMOLED display while some even offer a high refresh rate
and has been a success story for most brands as well. But, the Motorola Edge 20
Fusion has taken it to the next level with the inclusion of a 10-bit AMOLED
panel and a 90Hz screen refresh rate. This Motorola Edge 20 Fusion phone is
sporting a large 6.7-inch Full HD+ resolution display with a 20:9 aspect ratio
and HDR10 certified. Cheers to the 90Hz refresh rate, scrolling through the UI
feels smooth and fluid. The colors are punchy and have the right amount of
contrast. So, if you like to watch movies on your smartphone, then the Edge 20
Fusion’s OLED display will certainly amaze you. The screen gets exceptionally
vivid and is simply clear even outdoors. Additionally, its system-wide dark
mode offers a satisfying experience. It also has good viewing angles. But take
note that the display is very much prone to fingerprint smudges. Lastly, the display
on the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion is easily the best seen in this segment.
The
Performance
The Edge 20
Fusion runs on Android 11 OS, powered by MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G chipset,
and features a few Motorola personalization - making this one of its biggest
takeaways. The chipset is an octa-core chipset built on a 7nm fabrication
process. Moreover, the phone has two Arm Cortex-A76 processors clocked at
2.4GHz and six Arm Cortex-A55 processors with a speed clocking at 2GHz. It also
has Arm Mali-G57 GPU and an independent AI processing unit (APU).
The phone comes
in two configurations, 6GB and 8GB LPDDR4X RAM along with 128GB internal
storage. With the RAM boost feature, the memory can be expanded by an
additional 2GB. Furthermore, the phone comes with a hybrid slot.
This phone is
highly deliverable as it can handle all the basic tasks such as web browsing,
video streaming, and social media scrolling. The phone also comes with
dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and a 3.5mm headphone jack - all of
which worked well. The phone also performs well while switching between apps
and does not dawdle at any given time. In terms of gaming, the phone can run
with Smooth + Ultra combo and CoD Mobile which can run with mid graphics and
high frame rate.
